Asadgad Fort, Akola

Built in 1967 by Asad Khan, Akola Fort, also known as Asadgad, is a historical monument in Akola. Although now in ruins, the magnificent structure once used to protect the city. The fort was initially built in mud form by Akol Singh, later constructed in stone by Asad Khan and was ruled by the Mughal Empire.The fort was destroyed around 1870 by the British ruling India. What now remains is the entrance door of the fort, a few bastions and a temple of Lord Shiva. The architecture of the fort is quite unique and a piece of study for history lovers. There are also many interesting folklores associated with the fort.
