In the laps of the great sahyadri mountain ranges in the west ghats, lies a mammothic valley called the "Sandhan Valley ''. This valley is situated near the Bhandardara dam, and Samrad village is the base village to trek this valley. This village is located in Akole Taluka of Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra. It is 147 km far away from Mumbai, which is the state capital of Maharashtra.
Sandhan Valley is a canyon i.e. it is formed by water carving it's way through this rugged ginormous terrain. This valley which is stretched 1.5 km long and 200 ft deep is also rightly called as the "valley of shadows" or the "Valley of suspense" as the sunlight doesn't touch the ground of the deepest parts of this valley. This valley is surrounded by Alang-Kulang- Madan forts, Ratangad fort and it is also nearby Kalsubai Peak Trek which is the highest peak of Maharashtra with the elevation of 1,646 meters above the sea level. The trek route of Sandhan valley is one of the most challenging and enjoyable treks of the Sahyadri region.
The difficulty level of the Sandhan Valley trek is from moderate to high level difficulty hence it is suggested to conduct the trek under surveillance of a professional. The actual trekking of Sandhan Valley starts from Samrad Village which also works as the base village for this trek. To reach the Sandhan Valley, you need to reach Kasara Railway station from where further ahead you can reach the Samrad Village. The best time to go trekking at Sandhan Valley would definitely be the monsoon months, or before the first rains when you can spot the fireflies in abundance, creating a galaxy around you at night.
During monsoon season this area receives heavy rainfall which makes it a lush green and heavenly place. The reverse waterfall Sandhan Valley is one of the wonders you can experience during the monsoon season.
