Journey Into the Middle Land

Spiti, meaning “The Middle Land” between India and Tibet, is a high-altitude desert filled with rugged mountains, ancient monasteries, remote villages and turquoise lakes.

This 10-day Spiti Valley tour package from Chandigarh travels through the green valleys of Kinnaur, the sacred town of Tabo, the dramatic landscapes of Kaza and the mesmerising Chandratal Lake. The journey concludes through Manali and the peaceful surroundings of Parashar Lake.

Itinerary

Distance: 175 km | Travel time: Approximately 6 hours

Arrive at Chandigarh Airport and drive towards Narkanda. Visit Jakhu Hill and Kufri along the way.

Continue through beautiful mountain roads and forested landscapes before reaching Narkanda, known for its views of Hatu Peak.

Check in to the hotel and spend the evening at leisure.

Overnight stay in Narkanda.

Distance: 100 km | Travel time: Approximately 3 hours

After breakfast, drive towards Sarahan. Visit the palace of the former Maharaja of Rampur Bushahr along the way.

Continue to Sarahan, a beautiful Himalayan village overlooking the Sutlej Valley. After lunch, visit Bhimakali Temple, one of the 51 Shaktipeeths and an important example of traditional hill architecture.

Distance: 128 km | Travel time: Approximately 5 hours

After breakfast, travel towards the beautiful Baspa Valley and reach Sangla.

Visit the historic Kamru Fort and the nearby temple dedicated to the local deity. Continue to Chitkul, the last inhabited village near the old Indo-Tibetan trade route.

Explore the village, orchards, mountain streams and scenic surroundings before returning to Sangla.

Overnight stay in Sangla.

Distance: 40 km | Travel time: Approximately 1 hour 20 minutes

After breakfast, drive to Kalpa. Visit Chini village, the old Kalpa temple and the monastery at Reckong Peo.

Enjoy magnificent views of the Kinner Kailash mountain range and spend the remaining time exploring Kalpa.

Distance: 161 km | Travel time: Approximately 5 hours

After breakfast, depart for Tabo and stop at the scenic Nako Lake.

Continue to Tabo and visit the historic Tabo Monastery. Founded in 996 AD, it is one of the oldest and most significant Buddhist monastic complexes in the Himalayan region.

Explore the monastery’s temples, paintings and peaceful surroundings.

Overnight stay in Tabo.

After breakfast, drive towards Kaza and explore the high-altitude villages of Langza, Hikkim and Komik.

Discover Langza’s mountain landscapes, visit Hikkim and experience the remote surroundings of Komik, one of the highest inhabited villages in the region.

Return to Kaza by afternoon. The evening is free for leisure and local exploration.

Overnight stay in Kaza.

After breakfast, visit Dhankar Monastery, dramatically situated above the confluence of the Spiti and Pin rivers.

Continue to the remote Pin Valley, known for its rugged landscapes, wildlife and traditional villages.

Return to Kaza and explore the local market in the evening.

Distance: Approximately 210 km | Full-day journey

After breakfast, begin the journey towards Manali.

Visit Key Monastery, one of Spiti’s most recognisable Buddhist monasteries. Continue towards Kibber and cross the iconic Chicham Bridge.

Drive across Kunzum Pass and continue to Chandratal Lake. Spend time admiring the lake’s deep blue water and snow-covered mountain surroundings.

Continue towards Manali through the Atal Tunnel and reach the hotel by late evening.

Overnight stay in Manali.

After breakfast, visit Hadimba Devi Temple in Manali.

Later, drive towards the peaceful Parashar Lake, surrounded by green meadows and mountain views.

Continue to Sundernagar and check in to the hotel.

Overnight stay in Sundernagar.

Distance: 150 km | Travel time: Approximately 3 hours

After breakfast, check out and drive to Chandigarh.

The tour concludes with a drop at Chandigarh Airport or Railway Station for your onward journey.
